Character

Although they look similar, Ichthyosaurs are not related to dolphins or sharks. They aren’t dinosaurs either, they are giant marine reptiles. These air-breathing animals were once amongst the top predators in the oceans. Fossils show ichthyosaurs giving birth to live, well-developed young meaning they never had to leave the water to lay eggs.

Diet

Carnivore. Squid and fish.

TIME PERIOD

 Triassic, Jurassic & late Cretaceous (200 – 95 million years ago).
